LESSONS FROM THE LIFE OF DAVID - (2)
Jesus Tells the Parable of the Lost Sheep - [Luke 15: 3-7]
'Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one, does not leave the ninety-nine in wilderness and go after the lost sheep until he finds it ?
The Joyful Return of the Exiles - [Jeremiah 31:10]
'Hear the word of the Lord, O nations, and declare it in the coastlands far away; say, "He who scattered Israel will gather him, and will keep him as a shepherd a flock." - Also, in Psalm of David [23] David wrote out of his own experience because he had spent his early years caring for sheep.
Sheep are completely dependent on the shepherd for provision, guidance, and protection. The psalm does not focus on the animal-like qualities of sheep but on the discipleship qualities of those who follow. So, we are not frightened, passive animals, but obedient followers; wise enough to understand when a foreign yoke is put on locally, that means both are slavery ! The truth should set us free from bondage of any kind.....
As the Lord is the 'Good Shepherd' so we are the sheep - When you recognize the good shepherd, follow him ! The environment we create for ourselves and rebelling against a shepherd, instead of leading us to"green pastures" and "quiet waters", but through the streets rather than glorifying the LORD.
May the 'Good Shepherd' guide and protect us on the day of judgement, Amen
