The Blessings for Obedience
'The LORD will command the blessing upon you in all that you undertake and on everything you put your hand to. The LORD your God will bless you in the land he is giving you'- Deut.28
THE WORD vocation comes from the Latin word 'vacare' which means 'spiritual calling'. Every vocation, regardless of what it is, is a calling from God. And once we start to see the job in that light, we'll find it easier to believe God wants to bless us on the job. So with that in mind we need to follow the assignments :--
(1) Recognise God as our true employer - Ephesians 6:7-8
'Serve wholeheartedly, as if we were serving the LORD, not men, because we know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does'.
(2) Pursue work compatible with your gifts - 1 Peter 4:11
'If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised'- When we work to help others, they will see Jesus in us and praise him.
(3) Learn everything possible about the job - Proverb 1:5
'Let the wise listen and add to their learning and let the discerning get guidance'- Don't be a know-it-all, instead be open to the advice of others valuable insight and counsel.
(4) See work as God's gift, not punishment - Ecclesiastes 5:19
'When God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his work - this is a gift of God'- We should focus on the Giver than the gift.
(5) Use criticism to your advantage - Proverb 13:18
'Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured'- The next time someone criticizes you, listen to learn something.
(6) Do more than what's expected of you - Matthew 5:41
'If anyone wants to sue you and take your coat, give your cloak as well; and if anyone forces you to go one mile, go also the second mile'- Retaliation by giving is better than demanding... !
(7) See the LORD as our work partner - Proverb 1:7-9
In this age of information, knowledge is plentiful, but wisdom is scarce. It is a basic attitude that affects every aspect of our life. Faith in God should be the controlling principle for our understanding of the world, our attitudes and actions.
